The Town Moor helps make Newcastle truly special. With around 1,000 acres of open space available, the Town Moor is bigger than Hyde Park and Hampstead Heath combined! If you’re looking for somewhere to go running in Newcastle close to the city centre or Jesmond, the Town Moor is a great choice. In fact, it plays host to Newcastle’s weekly parkrun every Saturday morning. Close by you can find the popular Wylam Brewery at Exhibition Park, which is the perfect place to pay a visit after working up a thirst.
The Town Moor has a history as pastureland dating back to the 12th century and its land tenure and use is regulated by its own Act of Parliament. Freeman of the city graze cattle on the moors at certain times of the year, making it a must see for all nature lovers. It’s also a key location for adrenaline seekers in June when the Town Moor plays host to The Hoppings, Europe's largest travelling fair.
