Shoppers looking to buy ethical fashion and shop sustainably will also enjoy browsing second-hand boutiques and vintage shops often found in the suburbs around the edge of Newcastle.

However, visitors to Newcastle city centre should try The Yesterday Society Vintage Boutique in Grainger Market or Retro Clothing on High Bridge Street for their vintage fashion fix. Retro Clothing is one of Newcastle’s top thrift shops and the best place to pick up a classic item for men and women.

Flip has a reputation as the go-to vintage store for genuine, original American clothing. Specialising in Vintage menswear, Flip sells brands like Levi’s and Wrangler as well as heavy-weight flannel and US military-style shirts. Whereas Flea Circus in Heaton is an Aladdin’s cave of all things retro from kitsch homeware, sort-after vintage furniture to knick knacks, games and fashion.

A day out in Tynemouth is highly recommended and whilst you’re enjoying the fresh, seaside air over a weekend – dive into Tynemouth Market to have a rummage for some excellent vintage finds. Further along the coast at Whitley Bay, vintage hunters will find antique hotspot, Owl and the Pussycat.

Look out for Judy’s vintage fair which regularly pops up at the Boilershop in Newcastle with all the vintage wares you could ask for and at affordable prices!
