Indoor attractions, entertainment venues, cinemas, museums, art galleries and theatres remain closed. We hope that they will begin to reopen from 17 May 2021 in line with the government's roadmap. Outdoor attractions such as WWT Washington and Ouseburn Farm as well as the grounds of Beamish Museum, National Trust and English Heritage venues have begun to reopen (from 29 March 2021).

Hop on the metro to the coast and meet the River Giants at Tynemouth Aquarium and spend the day learning about what goes on under the sea.

Uncover the history behind Newcastle's name at the oldest building in the city and popular visitor attraction, Newcastle Castle. Get hands on at one of the many free museums and art galleries in Newcastle and Gateshead including Great North Museum: Hancock and BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art.

No visit to Newcastle and Gateshead would be complete without ticking off the iconic landmarks too. Watch as Gateshead Millennium Bridge tilts or “blinks” on the NewcastleGateshead Quayside or sit at the feet of the Angel of the North and marvel at its impressive wingspan.

Head further afield to explore the North East at popular attractions including National Trust and English Heritage venues or wander the Alnwick Garden which provides a different experience with each change of the seasons. South of the River Tyne, families can discover the feathery residents at WWT Washington Wetland Centre in South Tyneside or enjoy a peaceful stroll around the nature reserve.

Perhaps the region’s most historic attraction is the UNESCO World Heritage Site Hadrian's Wall which visitors can see in the city at Wallsend, Newcastle or head out to Northumberland to discover the Roman wall in all its rugged glory.
