Summer is a glorious time of year to experience Washington Wetland Centre. Good weather and an abundance of new nature makes for a brilliant day out for all ages and interests. Visit Wader Lake hides and marvel at young common tern learning to fish alongside broods of regionally rare avocet and grey heron juveniles. The hide at the saline lagoon offers unique 360-degree vistas of the River Wear and surrounding wildlife – including kingfisher, roe deer and wild otter – while the meadows and woodlands are full of colourful flora. Join expert wardens on a new Wild Walk (3 & 23 July and 4 & 27 August) and discover something different each time! Meet at admissions at 11am for an hour-long wander (cost included in entry).
