Shieldfield Art Works (SAW) presents a thought-provoking programme of art exhibitions, events, workshops and publications. When you visit SAW you’ll discover art which sparks conversation, and events that offer the opportunity to talk further about our exhibitions with others.
Everyone is invited to engage in creative activity together, both through events which explore the themes of our frequent exhibitions in more depth, and through regular arts and gardening workshops.
SAW is an artist-led organisation committed to creativity and community engagement. SAW believes art and creativity are integral parts of human life, and with art’s unique ability to articulate, question and enquire, SAW can enact positive change in our communities and the world. As a project of the Methodist Church, SAW is built upon Christian foundations of seeking truth, challenging injustice, social activism and operating for the common good. Anyone, of any faith or none, is welcome to participate in the programme.
SAW is a ten minute walk from Newcastle city centre. It's near to the pubs and music venues of the Ouseburn valley, so you can easily combine a trip to both. If you’re planning an event, you can also hire space.
