Blackfriars is an award-winning restaurant located in a 13th-century medieval friary in the heart of Newcastle serving up some of the best Sunday lunches, Afternoon Teas and fine-dining menus in the city. View the range on offer on Blackfriars Restaurant's menu here. Blackfriars now also offers an exciting range of pairings and flights in its Parlour Bar.

With its Dominican origins dating back to 1239, and a long and turbulent history that included a spell as a hostel for King Henry III, as a former inner-city monastery, Blackfriars is undeniably unique. The restaurant, which now occupies the oldest dining room in the UK, serves guests traditional-British cooking with local seasonal produce often straight from the nearby farms and markets.

Located next to the main restaurant Blackfriars ornate medieval Banquet Hall has been brought back to life following years of painstaking and meticulous research and restoration. The celebrated venue of King Edward III boasts authentic and bespoke banners, chandeliers, wall coverings, stained-glass windows, a large oak dining tables and matching chairs.

The hall, which also has its own kitchens, bar and toilet, accommodates 50 guests and is the perfect venue for corporate events, networking groups, functions, wine tastings, educational visits, private parties, anniversaries and weddings.

Blackfriars Cookery School, which overlooks the cloister garden, has a stunning central and bespoke granite-topped table accommodating up to 12 guests. It is the ideal space for bread-making, food and wine matching, kids cookery workshops, dinner party cooking and team building sessions as well as corporate and private dining.

Blackfriars is open for lunch and dinner every day (except for Sunday evenings) and offers a three-course lunch with glass of fizz for just £24, Monday - Saturday. When six or more people have lunch they also have free use of the Old Dormitory Meeting Room which provides a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of the city and overlooks the secluded medieval courtyard. It accommodates up to 20 people. At weekends, Blackfriars serves one of the best lunches in town.

Blackfriars is owned by award-winning restaurateur Andy Hook who also runs Dobson & Parnell on Newcastle Quayside and Hinnies Restaurant in Whitley Bay.
