Welcome to the Shape Festival for Young People, the celebration of culture and creativity taking place across multiple venues in Gateshead. The festival runs from Saturday 14th February - Sunday 1st March.

The festival has been programmed by young people, so whether you’re into live music, anime, photography, textiles, dance, visual art or a Ren faire, there's an event for you to enjoy. Make sure to keep an eye on shapegatesheadculture.com for a list of the locations and updates on events with booking details. There's also a selection of other half-term activities at the excellent cultural venues on your doorstep.

Some event highlights include:

Sunday 15th February - 2pm - 5pm - The K Pop Fantasy at The Glasshouse 

  • Featuring powerful performances inspired by the biggest K-pop moments from music, TV and film, the show delivers non-stop energy, bold visuals, and slick choreography from start to finish.

Saturday 21 February - 11am - 3pm - Anime attack at Gateshead Central Library

  • J-fest - J Fashion and Food Fest presented by Anime Attacks including a fashion runway, Japanese food, rosette making, idol performances, professional photo shoots, quizzes and meet artist Perta Szemam to learn about Manga/Anime style drawing techniques.

Saturday 21 February - 10am-4pm - Gateway Studios Presents: Dance Masterclass with Southpaw Dance Company 

  • A full day of dance for young people aged 14-18 with previous dance experience. Pre-booking is necessary  

Monday 23 – Saturday 28 February - 12-5pm - Shape Exhibition at Vane, Orbis community

  • Featuring work by young artists from across Gateshead. Exhibits will include artwork created by students from Thorp Academy as part of a Riverside Routes project taking inspiration from Gibside. There will also be work by the Emerald Explorers Photoclub and textile work by pupils at St Alban’s Primary School. A selection of artwork from students based at Orbis Community and Gateshead College and will also be on display.
