The Old Town Hall is the only surviving purpose-built Victorian town hall in Tyne and Wear and is one of only five comparable listed Victorian town halls in the North East. The Grade II listed building was the council headquarters for almost 120 years, before the council chamber, civic suite and most council offices were relocated to the new Civic Centre in 1987. The building has latterly been in use by a number of mainly social and cultural sector bodies.

Sage Gateshead are delighted to announce an exciting new partnership with Gateshead Council to bring new life to the historic and much-loved Gateshead Old Town Hall. They are developing a vibrant and broad-based programme of participatory arts and performance, welcoming people of all ages. Gateshead Old Town Hall will also be available for conferences, events and weddings.
