Father Christmas is terribly busy at this time of year, and we know how important it is to get your Christmas list in before the big day.

If you are looking for Christmas events to enjoy as a family in Newcastle then look no further! Experience a brilliant day out in Newcastle and meet the big man himself too! We have managed to locate Santa’s sleigh to find out where you can meet Santa in the North East this Christmas.

The Elf Express

All aboard! The Elf Express will be coming to town this year to the Stephenson Steam Railway Museum throughout December, bringing Santa along for the ride.

Have your tickets ready for a magical 4-mile steam train journey in a decorated carriage, with merry performances from Santa and his elves in the museum, festive arts-and-crafts, and complimentary Christmas snacks to enjoy. There will be plenty of opportunities for you to join in the fun and sing along.

Good boys and girls will also receive a present from Santa and his helpers along the way – the only coal here will be used for the train!

Stagecoach Santa Grotto Bus

Santa arrives by bus to Newcastle’s Northumberland Street this December 12-18 to meet all the good boys and girls at a mobile Santa’s Grotto.

Come on board and meet the man in red, assisted by his helpful Christmas elves. No matter your age or accessibility needs, adjustments can be made to ensure you can greet Santa in a relaxed, stress-free environment.

No booking is required, and with free entry for all, everyone can experience Santa’s magic this Christmas.

Afternoon tea with Santa Claus at Hotel du Vin

Hotel du Vin in Newcastle will host Father Christmas for a delightful Festive afternoon tea experience on the 18 December from 12noon - 4pm, just a week before Christmas!

Once you are seated with your seasonal selection of sandwiches, savouries and sweet treats, the helpful elves will check their list twice and make sure you’re on the good list this year. Then, Big Red will make his appearance for a sensational afternoon of singing, interactive games, and a special Christmas Storytime (perhaps with a Christmas gift for good boys and girls).

Book now to secure your place for an afternoon of festive family delight.

Polar Express Experience at St James' Park

Polar Express fans rejoice! Come along for the ride with a Polar Express Experience at St. James’ Park this December.

Enjoy a special screening of the movie with your very own commemorative ticket, and during the movie, enjoy some complimentary and delicious hot chocolate. Once the film has finished, boys and girls will be paid a visit from Father Christmas himself and given their very own believe bell to ring in the Christmas cheer.

Child tickets include admission for one adult – book now to secure your seat on this magical experience.

Grainger Market Grotto

Santa has set up a Grotto right inside the Grainger Market in Newcastle. He will be there till Christmas Eve. We contacted the elves, and they ask that you have your ticket ready for North Pole Passport Control, have an adult over 18, and only 3 children per visit. Now you only have 4 minutes to tell Santa what you really want for Christmas, so you better get started on that list.

North Pole Express Train Ride at Tanfield Railway

The North Pole Express will be arriving at Tanfield Railway between the 26 November and 24 December, and your magic ticket will open up a festive world for you and your family to explore this Christmas.

Board at East Tanfield Station for a magical ride on the North Pole Express steam train. Once you arrive at the North Pole, all passengers are invited for complimentary refreshments at Mrs Claus’ Tea Rooms, followed by a meeting with Santa in his Grotto and plenty of photo opportunities to make lasting festive memories.

Tickets must be booked in advance – secure your seat on the North Pole Express before it leaves the station!

Dalton Park Grotto

Santa and his elves have worked hard this year to make sure it is Covid safe for your little ones to visit. The team at Dalton Park and the North Pole want to make sure the Grotto is a magical experience.

Your little ones will be able to meet him face to face in a magical grotto till Christmas Eve to tell him all their Christmas wishes and have a photograph to take away. You do not need to book, just turn up and tell Santa what is on your wish list.

Breakfast with Mrs Claus at Seven Stories

Join Mrs Claus for what is probably the best meal of the day, breakfast!

Enjoy a spread of tasty pastries, pancakes, sweet treats and more as you soak up the merry atmosphere and start your day with some festive cheer. Once you’ve had your breakfast, you are invited to a Storytime with Mrs Claus for a Christmas tale, followed by an opportunity to have your photo taken with Claus herself.

Be sure to book before she returns to the North Pole on Christmas Eve!

Santa’s Supper Club at Fenwick

Until December 23, book now to enjoy a delicious two-course festive supper at Fenwick’s Arthur’s Restaurant with an accompanying meet and greet with old Father Christmas.

Allow the mischievous Elves to seat you upon arrival, with a hello from Santa and some arrival drinks – a glass of festive fizz for well-behaved grown-ups – and relax with a delicious seasonal 2-course supper whilst Santa takes the stage. Elf hats and Christmas colouring for children are provided free of charge!

Afterwards, children are invited to come up and take a photo with Mr Claus and, if they’re nice, can also receive a Christmas gift.

Santa's Festive Forest at the Metro Centre

From 17 November to Christmas Eve, allow Santa’s elves to guide you on a Christmas journey through a festive forest at the Metro Centre, decorating cookies along the way!

After you have decorated your Christmas treats, each family will be invited to enjoy a private session with Big Red in his very own Grotto. All good boys and girls will receive an age-appropriate gift to take home with them.

Breakfast with Santa at The Vermont Hotel

Santa invites you to treat your little helpers this year at The Vermont Hotel, as they host a tasty breakfast followed by some particularly jolly Elf entertainment from the real elves of the North Pole. You will also get to see Santa in his Grotto and if you are on the nice list, you will receive a gift.

Santa is staying at the hotel till Christmas Eve, so you better book ahead so you don’t miss him.

Santa’s Enchanted Elf Journey at The Whitehouse Farm

The Whitehouse Farm Elves are excited to present Santa’s Enchanted Elf Journey. They have a jam-packed programme of Festive Fun till 24th December all included in the cost of your experience.

Start your journey with a ride on their Festive Tractor & Trailer to the Enchanted Forest where you will meet the Fun Forest Elves, who will help you on a special search to find a festive surprise.

The Enchanted Forest is also home to Santa’s real Reindeer, you can help the Elves feed them and of course, there will be lots of fabulous photo opportunities with them too. What Enchanted Elf Journey would be complete without a visit to Father Christmas himself, each paying child will receive a special voucher from Santa to choose a quality gift in the Elves Toyshop. Each paying child will also receive a personalised letter from Santa.

The elves recommend you don’t delay as you won’t want to miss Santa’s sleigh.
