Located on the iconic Grey Street in the heart of Newcastle, Newcastle Theatre Royal is a must-visit destination with a history dating back to 1837. This Grade I listed building is renowned for its breathtaking architecture and vibrant productions, making it the perfect place for an unforgettable night out.
Step inside and be swept away by an array of world-class performances, from gripping drama and spectacular musicals to award-winning ballet and dance. Families will love our entertaining and enchanting shows, and opera enthusiasts will be thrilled by our sensational productions. Don't miss what we proudly think is the best pantomime in the country!
Having undergone major refurbishments in 1901 and 2011, Newcastle Theatre Royal has historic charm with modern amenities. Despite the challenges that come with being a listed venue, we’ve worked hard to make our building as accessible as possible; we have a lift for access to upper floors, an infrared audio system to enhance sound quality and a dedicated access team to assist at every performance.
We’re committed to creating a love for theatre that lasts a lifetime, and through extensive educational outreach programs, we’re inspiring creativity and artistic innovation in the region both on and off the stage.
Join us for an extraordinary cultural experience with performances from top-tier touring companies like Opera North, the Royal Shakespeare Company, Scottish Ballet and Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures. Whether you're a local or visiting the region, Newcastle Theatre Royal promises an exciting afternoon or evening of entertainment for all.
