Under the archway at the bottom of Grey Street and Dean Street are two very small shops! Four years ago local Geordie lad Sean and his Border Terrier dog Oscar set up a little gift, card and souvenir shop at the bottom of Dog Leap Stairs, UpSide Down Presents at 61 Side. In early 2018 Sean secured the even smaller shop right opposite (6 Dean Street) under the same archway and this was to be Newcastle’s first dedicated independent souvenir shop celebrating the amazing north east and many of its creatives. Now with over 100 local suppliers, you can pick up souvenirs such as postcards, magnets, pens, mugs, tea towels, keyrings, to even locally made Brown Ale Chutney. An array of local artists and photographers exhibit their goods in the North’s most likely smallest shop, yet the charming location of this Grade 2 listed building that has stood under the arch of Newcastle railways main train bridge for over 100 years is a must see! There is even room for a LEGO Tyne Bridge made up of 3,001 pieces! Souvenirs upon Tyne is open 7 days per week.
