Each year thousands of people take part in the Great North 5K to kick start the weekend's sporting events.

Soak up the party atmosphere on a fun and fast 5k route on the Newcastle Gateshead Quayside. The event will start at 6pm, allowing plenty of time to shut down from work and refuel on the Quayside after you cross that finish line!

• Great North 5km will be taking place on Friday 9 September 2022 on Newcastle's iconic Quayside.
• 6pm race starts
• 7.30pm race finishes
• 8pm all road closures will be reopened

Open to everyone, the Great North 5K is often ran as a warm up in preparation for the half marathon or simply as a little bit of fun.

In a similar fashion to the Junior and Mini Great North Runs (which will take place on Saturday 10 September), the Great North 5K allows participants to take in the scenic views across both Newcastle and Gateshead Quayside as they pass iconic landmarks such as Sage Gateshead, Gateshead Millennium Bridge and BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art.

Whether you are looking to perfect your personal best or you simply want to have some fun with your friends and family and enjoy the Great North atmosphere, the Great North 5K caters to both.

Team Challenge

The Team Challenge, is a fun contest to bring together the city's thriving business community. It’s a great opportunity for businesses to encourage a healthy outlook for staff, engage in all-important team building, and focus on charity fundraising.

It’s 4 people per team, with the fastest collective time winning a very special trophy, plus (more importantly) vouchers to By the River Brew. The race is on to find out which company will be crowned champions and earn the all-important bragging rights.
