The 2025 Lunar New Year celebrations are set to bring a dazzling display of colour, sound, and tradition to Newcastle’s Chinatown and city centre on Sunday 2nd February, marking the Year of the Snake.
This much-anticipated event will once again draw crowds to enjoy the exciting procession, captivating performances, and delicious food and fund for the whole family in Newcastle city centre.
The centrepiece of the day will be the famous Lion and Dragon Dance Parade by Edmund Ng's Choi Lee Fut Kung Fu, which starts at 11:30am from Grey’s Monument. Accompanied by drummers and performers, the parade will weave through Blackett Street and Gallowgate, before culminating under the stunning Chinese Arch on Stowell Street, where firecrackers and traditional dances will wow the crowd.
Head to Bath Lane to discover delicious vendors offering food from around the world, plus fairground rides and art and craft activities for kids.
Festival Highlights:
This year, Newcastle’s Chinatown invites everyone to join in the fun and experience the rich cultural heritage of the North East’s Chinese community. Don’t forget to explore the many restaurants and businesses in the area for authentic Chinese cuisine and special festival offerings!
Road Closures:
To ensure the safety and success of the festivities, Blackett Street and Gallowgate will be temporarily closed during the parade. These roads will reopen as soon as the procession has passed through.
