The 2026 Lunar New Year celebrations are set to bring a display of colour, sound, and tradition to Newcastle’s Chinatown and city centre on Sunday 22nd February, marking the Year of the Horse.
This much-anticipated event will once again draw crowds to enjoy the exciting procession, captivating performances, and delicious food and fun for the whole family in Newcastle city centre. The much-loved parade, sets off from Grey’s Monument and winds its way through the city streets, ending in Chinatown via the iconic Chinese Arch. Along the route, you’ll be treated to energetic performances, traditional music and stunning costumes.
At the Chinese Arch, enjoy a special performance from the Confucius Institute Newcastle University, alongside a breathtaking showcase from Edmund Ng’s Choi Lee Fut Kung Fu, Lion and Dragon Club. Expect impressive lion and dragon dances, martial arts displays and the excitement of firecrackers.
Over on Bath Lane, there’s even more to explore, with food vendors, market stalls, fairground rides and an arts and crafts tent to keep younger visitors entertained.

Road Closures:
To ensure the safety and success of the festivities, Blackett Street and Gallowgate will be temporarily closed during the parade. These roads will reopen as soon as the procession has passed through.
