Newcastle, it's time to switch on Christmas!
On Thursday 12 November, the heart of Newcastle gets properly festive as the city’s Christmas lights switch on and everyone’s invited.
From 6pm, expect live music, festive games, panto fun, special guests, Hits Radio, Steve and Karen, plenty of surprises and maybe even a certain man in a red suit… ho ho ho!
Then at 7pm…The lights go on and Newcastle officially enters its festive era.
Bring the kids. Bring your mates. Bring your loudest Christmas jumper. And (of course) bring your festive cheer! Get there early, grab a spot and get stuck into one of Newcastle’s biggest festive traditions.

What to Expect:
- Live Entertainment: From 6pm there will be live music, festive games, and holiday cheer for the whole family.
- Special Guests: Get into the Christmas spirit with Hits Radio and the region’s favourite duo Steve and Karen, panto stars, festive surprises, and maybe even a visit from Santa himself!
- The Big Switch-On: The magical moment will take place at 7:00 PM, illuminating the city’s streets in dazzling Christmas lights.
Getting There:
The Christmas Lights Switch-On is a free family event, but it's one of the most popular holiday gatherings in the city, so arrive early to secure a good spot. Due to ongoing renovations on the Tyne Bridge, public transport is recommended for an easier journey.
