The premier amateur theatre company in the North of England is one of the largest and oldest established in the country, opened originally in 1911. They stage up to fourteen productions a year in their 500-seat main auditorium and Studio Theatre.
Every show is produced entirely by their own members - on stage, backstage and front of house. The group always takes great pride in working to professional standards. Indeed, many of the members have gone on to be actors, technicians and set designers in the professional theatre.
Being a genuine community theatre places them in the unique position of being able to offer the experience of participating in any aspect of theatre to people from all walks of life; from costume design to publicity, or just to sit in the audience and enjoy the show!
People's Theatre is available for hire by companies and organisations for a variety of uses. In addition to the Main Auditorium, the rehearsal rooms and other spaces are available for conferences and meetings during the day and in the evening. The Gallery Bar is available for social functions.
