Christmas in NewcastleGateshead is a time of joyful celebration with family and friends. A chance to indulge in festive food and drink, browse for unique gifts at Christmas Markets in Newcastle, Gateshead and the North East and shop for all the sparkles and Christmas party outfits.
The festive season kicks off with the Fenwick's Window Reveal on Sunday 5th November. The famous tradition can be watched online via Fenwick's Youtube and Instagram account. Members of the public can visit the window from the 6th. After the window reveal, the next christmas tradition to take place is the Christmas light switch on. The much-loved traditional festive curtain raiser took place on Tuesday 14 November.
From Saturday 18th November until Saturday 23rd December, wander Newcastle's Christmas Market, with an avenue of stalls leading up Grainger Street, the top of Grey Street and Old Eldon Square. The market stalls will feature traders mainly from the local area. Opening times will be 10am to 8pm (Monday to Saturday) and 10am to 5pm (Sunday).
This year, the area around the Grey’s Monument will see a new performance area for live music, choirs, and other entertainment, not only adding to the festive atmosphere but also allowing more space and improved movement for everyone to fully enjoy the festive offerings. The Moosenwirt Alpine Bar, which proved so popular last year, will be returning to Grey Street.
Step inside Newcastle's Grainger Market to experience the build up to Christmas within the historic indoor market as it transforms into Santa's Grotto. The Grainger Market will be the heart of the city’s festivities this year, with a festive overhaul, Santa’s grotto and a programme of special events to be announced. Don't forget to visit Newcastle Quayside's popular Sunday Market as it gears up to the festive season every Sunday.
Meet Father Christmas, step into magical performances and pantos and get into the festive spirit with a city break in Newcastle and Gateshead this winter. Get outdoors to experience the magic of a festive light trail this Christmas at venues like The Alnwick Garden and The Northern Lights Trail.
Christmas in Newcastle wouldn't be the same without a visit to Fenwick's Christmas Window, and this year's theme is The Chronicles of Narnia. Head for a spin around the outdoor ice rink at Life Science Centre to really get in the festive mood.
