Discovery museum

Inspired by International Woman’s Day, this after-hours Discovery Nights: Wonder Women event celebrates remarkable women connected to the North East, with an evening of talks, activities, live music, historical objects and archives, bar and food.

Be the first to see Discovery Museum’s exciting new acquisition, the costume worn by actor Brenda Blethyn as TV’s eponymous Vera, the North East detective created by author Ann Cleeves - who will also join us for a short book reading and Q & A. With bite-size history talks, live music, proggy mat making all topped off with a performance by the drum group The Bangshees. A chance to mingle and meet, or chill and stroll through the museum dipping in and out of activities, to enjoy the museum at night and kick back.

Featuring:

  • An appearance by Ann Cleeves, author of the Vera and Shetland series with a short reading and Q & A
  • Sketch the actual outfit of TV’s Vera, as worn by Brenda Blethyn, and other iconic clothes worn by Catherine Cookson
  • Material from Tyne & Wear Archives and object handling
  • Live music with singer-songwriter Kirsty Hall
  • Dr Beverly Prevatt-Goldstein will share the story of Dr Irene Ighodaro
