The Alnwick Garden invite you to wander through their after-dark Christmas Light Trail until 2 January 2022. On the south-side of the River Tyne, families are invited to another enchanting outdoor light trail, this time in the grounds of Gibside National Trust in Gateshead.
We know you missed panto season in 2020 (oh yes you did!) so make sure you book a festive performance or heart-warming pantomime at one of the North East's excellent theatres. Burn off the extra mince pies and blow away the cobwebs with a Festive Five Fun Run or take to the water with CBK's Adventure Co. and their after-dark kayaking experience - Glow Tours.

Much-loved annual Christmas traditions in the heart of Newcastle city centre, such as Fenwick Newcastle's Christmas window display, have made a welcome return in 2021 and visitors to the Shaun the Sheep themed display can safely queue along Northumberland Street to take in the details of each window. NE1's festively FABULOUS Christmas window displays are up around Newcastle City Centre too so next time you're shopping in the city - see how many you can find.
Newcastle city centre is illuminated for Christmas shoppers heading into Newcastle to browse Grainger Market's festive stalls or marvel at the wonders of Fenwick Newcastle's in-store Christmas Market. Pop into Eldon Square and you will find their wonderful festive train to brighten up your Christmas shopping. The much-loved Quayside Market also returns on Saturday AND Sunday in the lead up to Christmas to add a little cheer to your weekends.
All this Christmas shopping is thirsty work! Get ready to swap your loungewear for sequinned glad rags, don your Christmas jumpers and celebrate the season by heading 'out out' to one of NewcastleGateshead's top bars, pubs and restaurants.
New Year's Eve will be a blast with a truly spectacular Laser of Lights display from 30 December - 1 January. You can even control the lasers in this immersive experience across the city.

However - it is still important to be considerate of others and prevent the spread of coronavirus when you're visiting busy areas as well as to follow government guidelines around wearing masks. Newcastle City Council have asked that visitors to the festivities and busy settings during the Christmas season consider taking a test for Covid before they head into Newcastle and that anyone who has tested positive or is displaying any symptoms is urged to stay at home.
