Who are Newcastle United Women?

Newcastle United Women  were formed in 1989 as Newcastle Ladies. The football club was renamed Newcastle United Women ahead of the 2016/17 season, when it became part of the Newcastle United Foundation marking an important step in its growth and development.

Today, Newcastle United Women are one of the fastest-rising sides in the game, achieving back-to-back promotions and transitioning to full-time professional status in 2023. Their journey reflects both long-term ambition and the growing momentum of women’s football across the UK.

Smashing attendance records, the Magpies are inspiring a generation of women and girls in the North East and beyond, growing stronger in the top tiers of the women’s game. Head coach Tanya Oxtoby took charge in late 2025, leading the team as they compete in the Barclays Women’s Super League 2.
