NE1’s Screen on the Green returns to Newcastle city centre on Monday 27 June with a packed schedule of international sport, starting with tennis from Wimbledon and football action from the Women’s European Championships before launching six weeks of family movies, screened for free during the school holidays.
The large outdoor screen will take up its usual position in the heart of Old Eldon Square, where the event has taken place since 2016.
To launch this year’s summer screenings, live action from the Wimbledon tennis championships will be broadcast (27 June – Sunday 10 July), as well as action from the British Grand Prix, followed by the Women’s Euros with screenings of all England and Northern Ireland’s games (6 July – 31 July), before finishing the sporting line-up with action from the Tour de France (1 – 24 July).
England’s women are second favourites to win the European Championships which will be staged on home soil.
On Monday 25 July, the summer film screenings will start with a programme of kids’ movies, family favourites, critically acclaimed dramas, and new blockbuster releases, together with musicals, cinema classics, and themed days and weekends.
84 films will be screened in total, 2 films per day starting on Monday 25 July and running until Sunday 4 September.
