The Hatton is pleased to present an exhibition curated from the Jerwood Collection by the Hatton Gallery’s young people’s group, L-INK.

The Jerwood Collection is a preeminent collection of modern British art, offering the group an unparalleled opportunity to work with a range of major artworks by British Artists.

Unlike most other professions or vocations every artist becomes an artist in different ways and at different times in their life. Some artists are art-makers all the time; others have relationships to the creative process which vary in their intensity, incidence and fluidity.

L-INK have been curious to understand the turning points and pivotal moments in the lives of artists that have been transformational, specifically, the ways in which artists have progressed their practices through the pathways they have taken, by way of both formal and informal education and their own lived experiences.

This exhibition will also celebrate the works of young artists at different stages of their arts development, in homage to Victor Pasmore’s 1957 Art Education Exhibition at the Hatton Gallery. As part of this project, one class from three different North East schools has worked with the Hatton on an in-depth exploration of selected artworks from the Jerwood Collection. Artworks made by pupils will also be displayed as part of the exhibition.
