The Stephenson Works is more commonly known as the event venue The Boiler Shop located in the regenerated Stephenson Quarter. As one of the city’s most unique venues, it is full of character and rugged charm, and is home to a range of ever popular food and music events.
Voted as one of BBC Music’s 10 most beautiful gig venues in the UK, The Boiler Shop is a fantastic place to watch a gig and hosts the fabulously fun Bongo's Bingo events which are always a sell-out when they take up residency each month. Foodies rejoice at the Boiler Shop Emporium events, which see the region’s finest food and drink providers unite for a culinary experience like no other.
Steeped in history, the site is where George and Robert Stephenson, along with three partners, opened the world’s first purpose built locomotive works on Forth Banks, Newcastle upon Tyne in 1823. The famous locomotives "Locomotion" and "Rocket" were built on this site and the works subsequently exported locomotives to developing railways all over the world - often the first to be seen in those countries.
