*Opening June 2026*
Freight Island is Newcastle’s newest neighbourhood - an island above the city centre built around food, drink and music. Bringing together a mix of independent kitchens, bars and a music venue (coming soon), it’s a space where no two visits feel the same.
Right in the heart of the Toon, Freight Island is transforming the former Debenhams store in Eldon Square into a new kind of social hub. Food is a big part of what’s to come, with a line-up including local favourites I Scream for Pizza, Miso and Meat:Stack.
You’ll also find Gosforth’s FAB Bakery for desserts and patisserie, Asian fusion from FUKU, pies from V.Goode Pies, Greek live-fire cooking from Pita, Caribbean flavours from Jerk Junction, and churros from Churro Kingdom. There’ll also be four bars, including local pours from Two by Two Brewing and a dedicated cocktail bar.
Music will run through everything at Freight Island, with a mix of DJs, selectors and live performances across the week - from laid-back daytime sets to busier evening sessions and special events. A spring/summer series will also bring a season-long programme of music, championing local talent alongside wider names.
A big new opening for Newcastle, landing June 2026.
