Christmas Lights switch on
The Christmas light switch on is happening on the 14th of November at 6pm – 7:30pm, so make sure you experience the joy of seeing Newcastle lit up. The prequel to the Christmas Markets, the light switch on is being hosted by Steve and Karen from Metro Radio and promises to entertain the crowds with live music and games. Grab your festive fancy dress and join in with the fun!
Christmas Markets
The much-anticipated Christmas markets are back this year, with the festive stalls lining Grey Street, Grainger Street and Old Eldon Square. This year there is the exciting addition of a ten-metre Christmas tree adorned with lights to make it even more special. Also making a brand-new appearance is a performance area surrounding Grey’s monument which will host live music, choirs and other entertainment. Enjoy a range of food and crafty stalls to make unique Christmas gifts!
Laser Light City
Laser Light City returns for another spectacular show this New Year’s Eve. BAFTA award-winning artist Seb Lee-Delisle will be bringing a bigger and better version of Laser Light City to the Quayside this year with three incredible light and music shows. Watch in wonder on Sunday 31st December as the three shows take place on the Quayside. In between shows, visitors can take part in Laser Light City themselves with controllable lasers. Northern Lights Trail
The Northern Lights Trail at Leazes Park is bigger and brighter than ever! The fully accessible, mile-long route will see epic illuminations along with a Christmas Village filled to the brim with delicious festive food and drinks by local artisans. Northern Lights will completely transform Leazes Park in the year of its 150th anniversary, with incredible illuminations set among woodland glades, heritage architecture, statues and the lake at the centre of the park. The light trail will take place from November 23rd until January 1st 2024.
Ice rink at Life Science Centre
Another staple in Newcastle’s Christmas itinerary is visiting the ice rink at Life Science Centre. This iconic annual occurrence promises a winter wonderland, for families and friends wanting a festive day out. There is something for all skating abilities so gather your family and friends and try it out. You can visit until January 7th 2024.
Meet Santa at Fenwick
Until December 23rd, book now to enjoy a delicious two-course Santa's Supper Club at Fenwick’s Arthur’s Restaurant with an accompanying meet and greet with old Father Christmas. Santa’s elves will be waiting for you at Arthur’s Restaurant before taking you to your table for a delicious two-course dinner for kids of all ages. Little ones will receive an elf hat to wear and can enjoy a spot of colouring while they feast on festive specials. Once children have finished eating they will then be invited up by the elves for an extra special picture moment with Santa and an early Christmas surprise. Accompanying adults will get a glass of festive fizz on arrival.
Christmas at the Bandstand
Join Urban Park Market as they bring the magic of a traditional Christmas to Exhibition Park and Urban Green café. Gather around the bandstand and enjoy free festive performances for all age groups, including local community choirs and musicians. Hot food and drink will be available to keep everyone warm and toasty. There is hot street food from the Urban Green café and hot churros, along with a range of hot chocolates and home-made mulled wine.
Winter Warmer Weekend
The Baltic are hosting their Winter Warmer Weekend, consisting of multiple festive activities to warm your soul. With two days of Christmas shopping, local art markets, pop-up shops, craft workshops and new exhibitions to leave you feeling joyous. Plus treat yourself to seasonal hot drink and festive eats in Baltic Kitchen. Taking place on November 25th-26th and is £3 entry.
Afternoon Tea with Santa
Try afternoon tea with Santa at Hotel du Vin, first, his elves will take the stage and ensure every child have made their way onto Santa's good list - while enjoying some sing along songs and interactive games. Once the big Man himself arrives, all of the children will gather for a special Christmas story and gifts. A complete afternoon of interactive entertainment with professional actors with sketches, jokes, and songs! Enjoy one of the indulgent Festive Afternoon Teas with some extra Christmas magic - a fabulous festive spread of mince pies, cakes and scones with seasonal sandwiches and delicious savouries.
Winter wonderland at the Metrocentre
