The Christmas light switch on is happening on the 14th of November at 6pm – 7:30pm, so make sure you experience the joy of seeing Newcastle lit up. The prequel to the Christmas Markets, the light switch on is being hosted by Steve and Karen from Metro Radio and promises to entertain the crowds with live music and games. Grab your festive fancy dress and join in with the fun!
The much-anticipated Christmas markets are back this year, with the festive stalls lining Grey Street, Grainger Street and Old Eldon Square. This year there is the exciting addition of a ten-metre Christmas tree adorned with lights to make it even more special. Also making a brand-new appearance is a performance area surrounding Grey’s monument which will host live music, choirs and other entertainment. Enjoy a range of food and crafty stalls to make unique Christmas gifts!
Laser Light City returns for another spectacular show this New Year’s Eve. BAFTA award-winning artist Seb Lee-Delisle will be bringing a bigger and better version of Laser Light City to the Quayside this year with three incredible light and music shows. Watch in wonder on Sunday 31st December as the three shows take place on the Quayside. In between shows, visitors can take part in Laser Light City themselves with controllable lasers. The Northern Lights Trail at Leazes Park is bigger and brighter than ever! The fully accessible, mile-long route will see epic illuminations along with a Christmas Village filled to the brim with delicious festive food and drinks by local artisans. Northern Lights will completely transform Leazes Park in the year of its 150th anniversary, with incredible illuminations set among woodland glades, heritage architecture, statues and the lake at the centre of the park. The light trail will take place from November 23rd until January 1st 2024.
Another staple in Newcastle’s Christmas itinerary is visiting the ice rink at Life Science Centre. This iconic annual occurrence promises a winter wonderland, for families and friends wanting a festive day out. There is something for all skating abilities so gather your family and friends and try it out. You can visit until January 7th 2024.
Until December 23rd, book now to enjoy a delicious two-course Santa's Supper Club at Fenwick’s Arthur’s Restaurant with an accompanying meet and greet with old Father Christmas. Santa’s elves will be waiting for you at Arthur’s Restaurant before taking you to your table for a delicious two-course dinner for kids of all ages. Gather around the bandstand and enjoy free festive performances for all age groups, including local community choirs and musicians. The Baltic are hosting their Winter Warmer Weekend, consisting of multiple festive activities to warm your soul.
