Join RGS Head of Climbing Gareth Dunn for some serious climbing time!
At RGS we are incredibly fortunate to house one of (if not the) largest school climbing wall in the UK. Our state-of-the-art facilities would rival any commercial climbing centre and cover climbing grades 4 to 7c (easy to super hard!).Climbing is a fantastic sport, which now exists at the professional level, and the Olympics (with Britain's own Toby Roberts being the men's Olympic gold medal winner from Paris 2024).
Climbing is not only great exercise (physically and mentally) but helps to develop resilience, problem solving skills (this requires quick, flexible, and creative thinking - skills) and a degree of responsibility for the safety of others in different situations (as well as your own!)
Our mixed ability session is aimed at students aged Y7 - Y11. These are a great chance to take your first steps in climbing or further develop your existing skills and all abilities will be catered for.
These sessions will cover kit familiarisation, an introduction to climbing techniques; learning how to tie relevant knots; how to belay other climbers and key tips and checks for learning safely.
Timings: 10am - 12:30pm
Drop off/Collection: RGS Main Reception on Eskdale Terrace.
Kit: RGS will provide all kit include shoes. Comfortable clothing including leggings and tracksuit bottoms can be worn. No baggy clothes or jewellery and long hair must be tied up.
Food & Drink: Please ensure you bring a water bottle and a snack. We operate a NO NUT policy on site.
Complimentary wrap around (8:30am - 10am): Available
CANCELLATION POLICYIf your child is unable to attend a summer skills session, unfortunately we are unable to offer a refund. However, in some circumstances we may be able to offer a credit towards a future booking. Please email communications@rgs.newcastle.sch.uk if you have any questions.
