We are very excited to host journalist and author Michael Bird for a special Halloween-eve event to celebrate the launch of his new book, MODERN GOTHIC, published by Fly On The Wall Press.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Michael Bird's fiction has been consistently published over the last few years. His most recent works include stories on urban witchcraft, deranged fandom, and family politics during the pandemic. His mixed media piece, ‘These Walls of Me’, won second prize on The Short Story (UK, 2018), and in 2022, his horror story about a McDonald’s mascot from the ’80s, ‘Fry Girl 4 Eva’ (USA), was nominated for a Pushcart Prize . He also works as an investigative and narrative journalist, with features published on organised crime, stray dogs, vampire hunters, killer homemade drugs, food emergencies, the war in Ukraine, and organic farming.

Join us at The Lit and Phil to hear more about the book and Michael's contribution to the collection. He will read his story ‘A Glass House for Esther’ and together we will explore the gothic genre, its origins, and its place in contemporary fiction.
