Here are just a few ideas for things to do in NewcastleGateshead over the Coronation weekend.

Have a spot of Afternoon Tea

Afternoon tea is a timeless tradition that seems fit to celebrate the King's Coronation. From delicate finger sandwiches and warm scones to decadent cakes and pastries, the array of delicious treats on offer is fit for a King! Head to Linden Hall and commemorate the coronation of King Charles III with a traditional afternoon tea event. The Royal Station Hotel is hosting Coronation Prosecco Afternoon Tea featuring classic scones with clotted cream and jam, savouries, coronation sandwiches, cakes and pastries. Langley Castle is also hosting a Coronation Afternoon Tea accompanied by live music.  The Copthorne Hotel Newcastle is celebrating the occasion from the 5 May until 8 May with Afternoon Tea, a special Union Jack Cocktail and a Palace Cream Tea.

Take a deep dive into the history of the Monarchy

King Charles has yet to visit Bamburgh Castle( we live in hope!) but many of his ancestors did. Bamburgh was the seat of the Anglo Saxon Kings of Northumbria-and most of the medieval Kings of England visited or lived here. Come to hear how Kings deeply influenced the future of Bamburgh village and Castle-even though some didn’t visit they had a profound impact-like Henry VIII. This isn’t a boring history lesson but an overview of the centuries from King Aethelfrith, to William Rufus, from tragic Henry VI to George III-and what happened when Prince Charles did visit our villages.

    Dine like a royal

Join Fenwick at Arthur's on May 5th to mark His Majesty King Charles III’s coronation. A moment to remember, the team will be providing the royal treatment on the night consisting of spectacular food, plenty of bubbles and exceptional live entertainment. The decadent three-course menu has been specially designed for the coronation and features some of the King’s favourite flavours, including a welcome drink Mint Julep with a whisky base. Reinventing the traditional brass band format with a 21st-century spin, Backstage Brass will be bringing a funky and beat-driven arrangement of classic and modern tunes. Take a look at the full menu here.
