    From spooky walks, to all night film screenings and pumpkin picking, there is a whole host of things to do in Newcastle and beyond this Halloween. Read on for our 'spooktacular' recommendations...

    Take part in a spooky evening walk

    Give yourself the heebie-jeebies when you make your way around Newcastle Castle on a spooky evening walk. Meeting outside the Castle Keep entrance, make your way around one of Newcastle's most haunted buildings, with exclusive access on the spookiest night of the year. Listen intently as your guide recalls tales of the Castle Keep's gory past and explore the dark chambers and passageways of the 12th century tower. If you can stomach it, head to the Great Hall for refreshments after the tour. Be sure to dress appropriately as the cold weather and eerie chills may get to you as you explore the Castle!

    Tyneside Cinema's Halloween All-Nighter returns! A must for any horror film buffs as the event celebrates 85 years of Horror Classics, with a with a spine-chilling selection of genre landmarks from throughout Tyneside's lifetime; uncover a nightmarishly visceral host of Found Footage Frights which forever changed the face of horror cinema, journey into the atmospheric, haunting realms of trailblazing J-Horror cinema and embrace the terrifying unknown with a mystery selection of 35mm treasures.     Go pumpkin picking

    Head to Jarrow Hall and take part in their Halloween festivities. Make your way to the Pumpkin Patch, pick up a pumpkin and take part in Halloween Crafts on the afternoons of Thursday 27- Sunday 30 October. Pick your own pumpkin and carve a scary face then hear some spooky stories around the campfire! Be careful of the resident witch who will be lurking in the shadows!

    Get creative with Halloween crafts

    Celebrate the spooky season by crafting a fresh Halloween wreath to hang on your door at South Causey Inn. Create an eerie Halloween wreath with the help of the guest floral experts who will offer their help to create the perfect eerie wreath with materials provided on the day. At the end of the workshop, you'll take home your wreath and show it off to trick-or-treaters over the Halloween weekend. If you are feeling peckish and wanting to make a day of it, grab lunch, dinner or a cocktail or two in the restaurant and warm up besides the log burning fires.

    Get spooky with your furry friend!

    Treat your dog this Halloween and indulge in tasty treats, and dress up in your scariest costume at South Causey Inn for their doggy afternoon tea, including a free 'doggy ice cream' for your doggy! A spooky Halloween guest will make an appearance with festive gifts for all and for a photo with you and your pooch. There will also be an extra special prize for the best doggy and owner matching Halloween costumes, so go all out!

    Take part in eek week!

    Discover an eekciting world in Washington Wetland Centre throughout the whole of October. A mysterious outdoor experience for all the family, dare to put your hand in a box of frog spawn or maybe grab a photo with a bat or get up close and personal with flamingo sick. Put your spookometer to the test with our interactive activities. It’s a weirdly wild day out for the whole family!

    Disco is Dead at Junkyard Golf

    Crazy golf just got weirder thanks to Junkyard Golf Club’s new event on 27th October, which will see their vibrant crazy golf venue transform into a chilling scarefest, for punters wanting to get into the Halloween spirit.

    Under the theme of ‘Disco is Dead’ Junkyard Golf Club will be throwing an epic party filled with chilling frights lurking in every shadow, creepy clowns and surprises that will haunt you long after the night is over, alongside crazy golf, mad cocktails and wicked beats. 

    Alongside Junkyard Golf Club’s famous cocktail and drinks menu, they will be serving their frightfully fun and crazy Halloween-themed cocktails including a Frozen Appletini, a boozy apple ice blast guaranteed to make your spine tingle and their Disco 54 a Malibu based drink, giving you that instant Disco Fever.

    Watch a spooky film at the Common Room

    Step inside the historic, Victorian Wood Hall in the Common Room as it transforms into a spooky cinema this Halloween, for a truly unique experience with the kids and ‘The Addams Family’ (2019 – the cartoon one!) Take a seat on one of the bean bags, with a cushion spare to hide behind as you watch the remake of the classic film. Perfect for families, there will also be a range of spooky snacks to purchase. Taking place on the 28 of October from 11:00am until 1:00 pm.
