A remarkable piece of maritime history is docking in Newcastle this July – and you're invited aboard. The Nao Victoria, a faithful replica of the first ship to ever circumnavigate the globe, will be moored at Newcastle City Marina for a limited time from 15–27 July 2025, offering an unforgettable experience for curious minds of all ages.
Originally captained by Spanish explorer Juan Sebastián Elcano, the original Nao Victoria left Seville in 1519 and returned three years later, having completed the first full voyage around the world. Painstakingly recreated in 1991, the replica ship is now a floating museum that has itself sailed thousands of miles and welcomed millions of visitors across the globe.
Visitors can take a self-guided tour of the ship’s decks, learn about the challenges of 16th-century exploration, and interact with the ship’s crew – real-life sailors who live and work onboard, just as they would have done 500 years ago. Information panels, authentically recreated spaces and hands-on storytelling bring this iconic vessel to life, right in the heart of Newcastle.
Open daily from 10am–8pm, the ship will be available to explore at your own pace, with ample time for questions, photos, and soaking up the atmosphere. Family tickets are available, and walk-up visits are welcome, though pre-booking is advised.
Don’t miss your chance to step back in time and experience a true legend of the seas.
