Jenningsbet Northumberland Plate Festival 2025

One of the most prestigious racing festivals in the North of England returns to Newcastle this summer, as the Jenningsbet Northumberland Plate Festival gallops back into High Gosforth Park for three days of thrilling racing, fashion and live music.

Running from Thursday 26 – Saturday 28 June 2025, the festival is the ultimate celebration of summer sport and socialising, with something special lined up on each day of the event.

Day 1: Thursday 26 June – Seaton Delaval Handicap Stakes
The festival begins with a bang on Thursday, as Newcastle Racecourse hosts the Seaton Delaval Handicap Stakes, a fiercely competitive Class 2 race named after a Northumberland village and a historic racehorse from 1893. This is the perfect way to kick off a weekend of top-class racing, with a buzzing crowd and electric atmosphere setting the tone.

Day 2: Friday 27 June – Gosforth Park Cup Night & Scam Fender (Sam Fender Tribute)
Friday brings Ladies Day and Gosforth Park Cup Night, a stylish and social occasion that’s long been a favourite among racegoers. Expect nail-biting sprints including the Gosforth Park Cup and Group 3 Hoppings Stakes, plus a party atmosphere that carries on after the last race.

Stick around for a live performance from Scam Fender, a high-energy Sam Fender tribute band playing all the hits—from ‘Seventeen Going Under’ to ‘The Dying Light’—as the crowd belts them out long into the evening.

Day 3: Saturday 28 June – Northumberland Plate Day & ABBA Revival
The weekend reaches its thrilling conclusion with Northumberland Plate Day, the jewel in the festival’s crown. Often called the “Pitmen’s Derby,” this historic two-mile heritage handicap is the richest race of its kind in Europe, boasting a £150,000 prize fund.

The day's racing also includes the prestigious Group 3 Chipchase Stakes, but it’s more than just racing—expect trackside style, plenty of food and drink, and a full day of entertainment. After the final race, fans can enjoy a live set from award-winning tribute band ABBA Revival. It’s your cue to dust off your best dance moves and sing along to ‘Dancing Queen’, ‘Mamma Mia’, and more!
