Part of Newcastle's Christmas, Enchanted City is a magical new event taking you from city streets to cosmic skies and bringing the wonder of space to our doorstep.

For its inaugural year, Enchanted City is inviting adventurers of all ages to take a cosmic voyage to discover the science behind the stars, the beauty of the constellations, and the thrill of space exploration.

What is Enchanted City?

This intergalactic adventure is the perfect winter event for families, so stargazers of all ages can be inspired by the night sky. Transport to galaxies far far away this December and experience the Toon after dark.

What to Expect at Enchanted City

As you wander, you’ll encounter illuminated astronomers charting imaginary skies, sculptures twirling like satellites in orbit, and immersive installations celebrating the magic of the night stars.

  • Discover SIGNAL, a breathtaking new large-scale projection. Drawing on real radio transmissions from deep space, this immersive artwork transforms cosmic signals into a mesmerising, ever-shifting world of light and sound.
  • Enjoy Ascendance and encounter a life-sized astronaut drifting through a surreal cosmos of flowers, butterflies, and shifting hallucinations, all accompanied by a beautifully crafted soundtrack.
  • Starmongers delivers a dazzling cosmic spectacle. Encounter two towering, illuminated puppets - otherworldly explorers inspired by 18th-century astronomers as they drift gracefully through the event, scattering light and inviting audiences to send their own messages into the stars.
  • Gaze at Terra Nova, an incredibly mesmerising suspended globe sculpture which its rotation casts swirling shadows across surrounding surfaces which is paired with a composed soundscape.
  • Clear the Way welcomes visitors into an immersive ‘Emotional Baggage Drop Off’, encouraging everyone to let go and reconnect. Wander through a glowing field of lights where hanging luggage-tag constellations create a shimmering dreamscape, guided by three welcoming performer-hosts.
  • Ladder to the Moon brings the celestial into the scale of the everyday, turning a familiar, functional object into an improbable route to something usually far beyond reach.
  • Cluster invites all to step inside a living galaxy. Wander or dance through thousands of shimmering points of light, each one a star in motion, sweeping in orbit around an unseen cosmic centre.
  • At night, scattered points of light in the sky are joined into constellation - Constellations brings that idea down to earth, forming a quiet cluster of light in the landscape.
  • Mind & Matter invites everyone to rediscover the cosmos and our place within it with fresh perspective and renewed wonder. Step into a journey that spans the chaos of the Big Bang, the mysteries of ancient stargazers.
  • A Peace of Space Time is a chance to enter a universe of celestial understandings, misunderstandings and sparkling fiery imagery, hosted by an intriguing crew of comedic celestial seekers.
  • At Horoscope Hotel, explore the darkness of Enchanted City and search for a door that symbolizes an aspect of your personality, whether or not you believe in it, represented by your star sign.
  • Ticket holders can get creative in free workshops with local artists and capture a keepsake vintage photo in Greencroft Arts’ Moon Booth.

Powered by the creativity of regional, national, and international artists, Enchanted City will take everyone on a family-friendly journey to galaxies near and far. Don’t forget to look up - the universe is waiting for you!
