This showcase, in collaboration with Fenwick, highlights the creative talents of over 100 individuals from North East England, ranging from hobbyists to self-taught artists, alongside pieces from established artists. Featuring 107 artworks encompassing various mediums such as painting, sculpture, photography, and video, the exhibition celebrates the diverse artistic expressions found within the region.
Selected by a panel of experts, including musician Paul Smith, artist Jasmina Cibic, Leo Fenwick of Fenwick, Baltic curator Niomi Fairweather, and Baltic assistant curator Rose McMurray, these pieces were chosen from a pool of 1400 submissions.
Among the established artists featured are Phyllis Christopher, a Newcastle-based photographer renowned for documenting LGBTQ+ culture and activism in 1980s/1990s San Francisco; Holly Hendry, a London-based sculptor delving into hidden spaces and the human body's inner workings; and Jim Moir, better known as Vic Reeves, a prolific painter presenting a never-before-seen artwork.
