Abbie Finn Trio The Old Black Cat Jazz Club
Abbie Finn Trio play contemporary, original jazz music focusing on varied rhythmic concepts with heavy improvisation, whilst also nodding to more traditional jazz - taking inspiration from artists such asDexter Gordon, Art Blakey, Tubby Hayes, Joe Henderson, Max Roach and more.

Jazzwise recently dubbed the trio as crucial to the North-East scene. The most recent of thier four albums, Stotties for Three, was funded by Ronnie Scotts Charitable Foundation and successfully launched at thePizza Express Jazz Club in Soho.

Abbie is a drummer from the North-East who began playing drums at the age of 10. Alongside the Abbie Finn Trio she also performs with the Harry Keeble Quartet, Michael Young Trio, Alexia Gardner Quintet, andDean Stockdale Trio. She is also the drummer in demand for artists visiting the area likeVasilis Xenopoulos, Andrea Vicari, Simon Spillett and more.

In a particularly well-balanced group the standard of the playing is excellent throughout, with the trio combining well as a unit but also shining as individuals.
'Theres an extended solo drum passage from Finn, a highly colourful excursion that includes a colourful array of sounds and which is irresistible in its joyousness.'

Ian Mann The Jazz Mann

'Finns impressive drumming is the driving force behind the tracks, this is accompanied by the virtuosic nature of Graingers bass, supporting the weaving dynamics of Keeble on the tenor sax. The title celebrates the joys of good bread, and the album portrays not only the best in life, but also the best the trio have released to date.'

The Minster will be open for arrivals from 7pm, with the show begining at 7:30. There is an interval for drinks and networking, with a volunteer led bar available. We aim to be finished by 10pm. The intention is to create more than just the usual gig setting. Along with high quality acts, we curate a relaxed vibe, with friendly like-minded people, in stunning surroundings. All are welcome, from the Jazz veteran to the Jazz-curious.

While regular attendees may be used to traveling to the East End for our events, were bringing the programme to Sunderland Minster for 2025.
