Lino North - The Biscuit Factory

Patrons looking at art in gold frames
Lino North brings together sixteen printmakers specialising in linocut, working across the North of England, Wales and Scotland highlighting the continuing strength and diversity of contemporary printmaking, with a focus on the physical processes of carving, inking and printing.

Linocut is defined by a small set of materials: a carved lino block, ink, paper, plus pressure. Within these constraints the Lino North artists take varied approaches. Some build images through reduction, cutting and printing a single block in successive stages. Others construct layered works using multiple blocks to develop colour, tone and structure. Across all practices, cutting decisions are final, with each impression shaped by inking, pressure and registration pattern, rhythm and form. Drawing remains central across many practices, retaining a sense of immediacy within the finished print.

Lino North reflects the gallery’s continued commitment to contemporary printmaking and material-led practice. Alongside the exhibition, participating artists will offer talks and demonstrations providing insight into their working methods and approaches.
