John Rutter is probably the most popular and most frequently performed of all our home-grown contributors to the repertoire while Bob Chilcott never fails to provide exciting, imaginative music for both voice and accompaniment. George Shearing makes a welcome return to our repertoire. His settings of Shakespeare while, as ever, easy on the ear show great vocal subtlety with both swing and syncopation featured in their accompaniments. NorwegianOla Gjeilo has proven to be a favourite with the choir in recent years, while reference to the New World Symphony of Anton Dvork, alongside the old American Shaker hymn Simple Gifts, introduces a transatlantic flavour.
