Clark Tracey BEM grew up in a jazz environment as the son of legendary UK jazz pianist Stan Tracey and Jackie Tracey, a pioneer of British jazz recordings. From an early age Clark took to the piano and vibraphones before starting the drums at 13. He turned professional at 17 in 1978, joining his fathers ensembles from trio to orchestra for the next 35 years, touring worldwide and recording extensively.

In 1981 he formed the first of his own groups with Django Bates and Iain Ballamy. Since then he has led numerous bands featuring leading UK jazz musicians, and his current quintet continues this tradition with some of the countrys most respected players.

Clark has recorded over 100 albums, including 15 as a leader, and has performed in more than 50 countries. A six-time British Jazz Awards Best Drums winner, he has also worked with major artists including Johnny Griffin, Pharaoh Sanders and Scott Hamilton.
