TISH is a lovingly realised documentary of Tish Murtha’s life, family, and exceptional talent as a social documentary photographer. A result of remarkable archival efforts by various individuals, including her daughter, Ella Murtha, to establish her mother’s legacy.
Tish was committed to highlighting and challenging the inequality of the working-class communities that she grew up with in the North East. Her brilliant eye, unswerving ethics and constant empathy are present in her images, artefacts, letters, and diaries explored within this documentary.
The Common Room are incredibly proud to present TISH, and to have Ella join us for a discussion after the screening. Join us in a celebration of our region’s archival heritage and Tish Murtha’s invaluable dedication to documenting working-class communities in the North East and beyond.
Q&A Session:
Following the screening, Ella Murtha will lead a tribute to her mother’s legacy, offering personal insights and reflections on Tish Murtha’s life and work. The audience will have the opportunity to ask Ella questions, as she shares stories about her mother’s life as a photographer and activist.
