Kick starting the bound’s 2025 event programme we delighted to welcome debut local author Lucy Rose to celebrate the launch of The Lamb.
The Lamb tells the story of a young girl Margot, and her mother Ruth, who live in a ramshackle cottage by a forest. When Margot is not at school, they spend quiet days together at home, waiting for strangers to knock on their door. Strays, Mama calls them. Mama loves the strays. She feeds them wine, keeps them warm. Then she satisfies her burning appetite by picking apart their bodies.
But when a white-toothed stray named Eden turns up in the heart of a snowstorm, little Margot must confront the shifting dynamics of her family, untangle her own desires and make her own bid for freedom.
The Lamb is searingly original – a visceral, shocking reading experience, and at the same time, a luminous and tender coming-of-age tale. Lucy expertly uses horror to explore how women swallow their anger, desire and animal instincts.
