Shiremoor Primary School Cultural Match Exhibition
The Cultural Match programme is delivered by Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums and is funded by the North of Tyne Combined Authority. Twelve schools have worked in partnership with our venues across the school year to raise the confidence of Early Career Teachers in building relationships with cultural organisations and artists.

From January to April every child from Shiremoor Primary school visited the Great North Museum: Hancock as part of the Cultural Match programme.

Children took part in activities and explored the museum's collection before heading back to school and working with artist Nicola Lynch to create artwork inspired by the museum.

Artwork from reception to Year 6 will be on display at the museum for 4 days.

You will see a range of pieces, including a textile inspired by the Natural Northumbria gallery and a 3D felted solar system.

Barbara Middleton, Headteacher at Shiremoor Primary school has said:

'The children of Shiremoor Primary School have greatly enjoyed a joint project with the Great North Museum and a local artist, Nicola Lynch. All the children visited areas within the museum to inspire them to create the fantastic art work , a small sample of which is shared in the exhibition. The project presented opportunities for cross-curricular learning of history, Geography, science, art and personal development. Children were also introduced to a range of new career opportunities. Thank you to everyone who made this possible for us and especially to North of Tyne for the funding to make it all possible.'
