At RGS we are incredibly fortunate to house one of (if not the) largest school climbing wall in the UK. Our state-of-the-art facilities would rival any commercial climbing centre and cover climbing grades 4 to 7c (easy to super hard!).Climbing is a fantastic sport, which now exists at the professional level, and the Olympics (with Britain's own Toby Roberts being the men's Olympic gold medal winner from Paris 2024).
Climbing is not only great exercise (physically and mentally) but helps to develop resilience, problem solving skills (this requires quick, flexible, and creative thinking - skills) and a degree of responsibility for the safety of others in different situations (as well as your own!)
Our mixed ability session is aimed at students aged Y6 - Y10. These are a great chance to take your first steps in climbing or further develop your existing skills and all abilities will be catered for.
These sessions will cover kit familiarisation, an introduction to climbing techniques; learning how to tie relevant knots; how to belay other climbers and key tips and checks for learning safely.
