Meet the Maker
Come and meet artist Rebecca Appleton at the Heritage Centre for another of our solo ‘Meet the Maker’ events.

Rebecca is a self-taught artist based in the North East of England.

She has struggled with depression and anxiety throughout her life and uses art to help her get through the really difficult times, when she feels like she’s losing the battle with her illness.

“My discovery of art has been transformative! The creative process helps me to slow down, focus my mind, reconnect with myself and be present in the moment. Art is my therapy.”

Rebecca loves to explore new media and ways of working, but her signature style of art is made with black fine-liner pens. Flowing lines, spirals and swirls alongside straight lines and shapes and intricate repeated patterns give her work a distinctive and interesting texture and depth.

Watercolours, acrylic paint or coloured pencils are used to create the colours beneath the pen.

She often works intuitively, letting her work evolve, without a clear idea how a piece will look when completed.

“I try to control my overthinking mind and just let the pens lead the way.”

A selection of Rebecca’s work is available to purchase for a 2 week period in our shop from 6th July, or directly from her on her Meet the Maker day on Saturday 20th July.

Please drop by to say hello and support local creatives and small businesses.
