This concert celebrates Phoebe's first full-length CD, of songs by the legendary American songwriter Si Kahn. A while ago Phoebe's recording of Si Kahn’s Mississippi Summer so impressed the man himself that he invited her to make a whole album of his songs to celebrate his eightieth birthday.
Born in Oswestry, brought up in Scotland and now living in the north-east of England, Phoebe Rees draws inspiration for her music from far and wide, but particularly the traditional music of Scotland, Ireland, England and North America. She’s acclaimed as a fiddle and viola player as well as a singer (see https://phoeberees.co.uk/ http://facebook.com/phoebereesmusic). Si Kahn’s songs have been performed by the likes of Planxty, Dick Gaughan, The Oyster Band and Peggy Seeger.
Phoebe’s new CD _Bring in the Light: Si Kahn’s Songs of Courage and Resistance_ was recorded in the Netherlands, and she’s celebrating the release in her local area of North Shields for this special launch concert at the Cullercoats Watch House.
