Henry Parker Michael Woods - Live The Cycle Hub
An opportunity to see two nationally acclaimed UK based folk/blues artists co-headlining in the intimate setting of the Cycle Hub .
Henry is a young rising star who channels the intricate fingerpicking style of folk/blues players like John Renbourn, Bert Jansch & Davy Graham and combines it with his own influences to create progressive, left-field modern folk music with a psychedelic twist; a sound which is uniquely his own. Henry will be coming to the Cycle Hub fresh from completing his European Tour with Katie Spencer.
Michael is well known for his appearances in UK blues festivals & clubs across the country. He began in folk & acoustic clubs, his own writing style drawing again from the likes of Renbourn, Graham, Jansch as well as the early acoustic bluesmen of the 1930s.
Their worlds collide with a shared love of the music of these great folk/blues artists, as well as music from outside the genre and an interest in local people & places; both men's lyricism drawing from their native areas, Yorkshire and the North East respectively.

The Cycle Hub has a licensed bar with local beers from Wylam Brewery, Allendale and Anarchy.

Henry Parker
Channelling the ghosts of Jansch and Renbourn through his fingertips, the fluid playing and emotive singing of Yorkshire-born Henry Parker evokes the spirit of the early-60s folk revival as if it were yesterday. (RnR Magazine )
His relaxed vocals and songwriting are as warm and open as his tunings (8/10 Uncut)
"His songwriting lyrically entwines landscapes, people and politics with roots that run deep into the traditional folk songs of England."
What Parker does so effectively is to blend ancient with early-70s and modern styles(Mojo )
A really excellent young guitarist/ songwriter Steve Tilston
Henry Parker's contemporary take on folk, which he explores via thoughtful yet deeply accomplished guitar playing, unfurls and moves much like the landscape itself mirroring the unpredictable, yet beautifully flowing, rolling hills and valleys of his native county of West Yorkshire.
Parkers musical roots go back to a self appointed upbringing in prog-rock and metal. However, enthralled at the age of 20 by the ethereal playing of Bert Jansch and Nick Drake, finger-picking and open tunings rapidly became the essence of his sound. The result is a strain of informed, progressive folk music found nowhere else. Henry has recorded 2 albums: the eco-conscious Silent Spring (2019) and Lammas Fair (2021),bringing him to the forefront of the progressive folk music world. In 2023 he curated and recorded on behalf of the American label Tompkins Square Records, bringing together a tribute album to Michael Chapman, one of his most important musical influences.

Michael Woods
Michael is an exquisite bottleneck, fingerpicking, blues and ragtime guitarist with a dexterity to be admired"(R2 /RnR)
one of today's most inspirational performers ploughing this rootsy furrow.(Fatea)
Might on this evidence give some of our transatlantic cousins a run for their money
His powerful picking really shines on a whole shackload of classic blues(Acoustic Magazine)
full of lilting passion. (Guitarist magazine)
"Very classy indeed, and highly recommended." (fRoots)
Michael is an acclaimed Fingerpicking, Ragtime, Bottleneck & Blues Guitarist with four well received albums to date. Embracing the rich history of early blues, Michaels powerful picking and slide really shine on material ranging from classic acoustic blues to self-penned songs & instrumentals. He cites many influences including the East Coast blues of Fulton Allen(Aka Blind Boy Fuller) & Blind Blake. Elements of his experience in the folk world and his love of the North East and its history are incorporated into his style. One of his award winning tunes is Blink of an Eye, featured on his third album, East Coast Fret. Having performed at Lindisfarne & Callander Jazz & Blues festivals, on the main acoustic stage of most of the major UK Blues festivals as well as in clubs & venues all over Britain, he is looking forward to playing at the Cycle Hub on the Ouseburn Delta where the Ouseburn meets the Tyne. Michael will be playing some original songs and instrumentals as well as some classic acoustic blues.
