Newcastle upon Tyne – Prepare to step back in time and experience the magic of Charles Dickens' beloved classic A Christmas Carol like never before! Following two hugely successful seasons, Niltoni Productions is thrilled to announce the return of Dickens by Candlelight: A Christmas Carol for its third consecutive year. This year’s production promises to be more enchanting and immersive than ever, once again set in the stunning and historic Alderman Fenwick's House.
Running from November 26th to December 24th, 2024, this unique theatrical event will transport audiences to the heart of a Victorian Christmas. Alderman Fenwick's House, a Grade I listed building and one of Newcastle’s oldest and most storied structures, offers the perfect backdrop for this intimate performance. The Great Room, where Charles Dickens himself once resided and entertained, is transformed into a sumptuous 1830s setting, complete with candlelight and period décor, allowing just 48 guests per night to experience the timeless tale in an atmosphere steeped in history.
A Fresh Adaptation by Acclaimed Talent
Under the artistic direction of the award-winning Jake Murray, known for his acclaimed productions such as Haddock & Chips, The Rievers, and Macbeth, this year’s A Christmas Carol will offer a fresh yet faithful adaptation that breathes new life into Dickens’ classic story. The adaptation, masterfully crafted by writer and producer Craig Wilde, captures the imagination and spirit of Christmas, inviting audiences to join Ebenezer Scrooge on his transformative journey with the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future.
A Historic Experience
"Audiences will have the rare opportunity to sit in the very room where Dickens himself once sat, feeling the same ambiance that inspired the author’s legendary works," says Craig Wilde. "This production is designed to take you back in time, creating a truly immersive experience that evokes the perfect image of Christmas in the 1830s."
The production’s intimate setting, limited to just 48 guests per night, ensures that every attendee is fully immersed in the atmosphere and emotion of the play. The Great Room, once the heart of the Queen’s Head Hotel, where Dickens stayed during his visits to Newcastle, provides a connection to history that is both palpable and profound.
