* Our search room opening hours are Wednesdays 1.15pm-4pm, Thursdays and Fridays 10am-12.45pm and 1.15pm-4pm
* Youll need to book a seat in our search room before you visit.
* Our staff will be on hand to help.
When you arrive please let the museum staff know that you have a reservation for the archive searchroom. They will direct you to the archives waiting area where a member of the team will collect you.
Please note:
* You must book a ticket in advance of your visit. You will need to book your ticket at least one week in advance of your visit.
* If you are making travel arrangements and need to confirm your visit further in advance than our booking form allows, please email us at archives@northeastmuseums.org.uk.
* When you book a ticket you will need to choose either a
* morning session (10am-12.45pm)
* or an afternoon session (1.15-4pm).
* You can book an all-day session by booking both a morning and afternoon.
* Please book an individual ticket for each member of your group.
* We currently have no access to computer resources such as Ancestry and FindMyPast. We do have Wifi access in the searchroom.
* If you arent sure which document you need to look at to answer your query or want some advice on our collections before you visit please email us at archives@northeastmuseums.org.uk Please do not book a research session until you know which documents you need to order.
On the day:
* Where possible please arrive at the start of your booked session. If you arent able to do so please speak to the welcome desk at Discovery Museum and they will let archive staff know you have arrived.
* When you arrive, you will be directed to the archives waiting area on the ground floor or Discovery Museum. A member of the archives team will collect you.
* In the searchroom there are lockers for your belongings. Please place bags, coats and personal belongings in the lockers. You can bring a small quantity of paperwork, notes, pencils, cameras and laptops to your desk. You cannot bring in any food or drink, pens or bags.
* In the searchroom you will be allocated a desk.
* If you want to plug a laptop into the mains please ask searchroom staff. Most of our desks have power points nearby.
* If you know in advance that you plan to use self-service photography then please purchase a camera pass in advance of your visit.
