Teaching Migration Through a Local History Lens: Opportunities for Key Stage 3 History and Beyond

A CPD event for history teachers of KS3, although we welcome teachers of all key stages. A hands-on workshop and guided tour of Discovery Museums migration gallery, Destination Tyneside. Facilitated by its curator Kylea Little from North East Museums, Shabana Marshall from the Historical Association and Gillian Johnston from The National Archives.

Migration has been a defining feature of human existence, shaping local, national and global histories for thousands of years. This CPD event, delivered by the Historical Association in partnership with Discovery Museum and The National Archives, will provide insight to the multiple ways in which local histories of migration have connected North East England to the national and the global, and how exploring these connections can help us make better sense of our world today.

Through this hands-on workshop and a guided tour of the Destination Tyneside gallery, attendees will have the opportunity to explore the possibilities present in their own teaching for incorporating the many rich and diverse migration stories that helped shape North East England.

Whilst aimed primarily at history teachers of KS3, we welcome teachers of all key stages given the potential that exists for teaching migration across all phases.
