Community Business Week 2025 Gateshead & the North East

Community Business Week is a national celebration of community-run organisations that make neighbourhoods more vibrant, resilient and inclusive. From neighbourhood charities and community hubs to family services, makers, and local independents, community businesses across the North East are transforming lives and places.

2025 also marks Power to Change’s 10-year anniversary, highlighting a decade of supporting community-led change across England.

Residents are invited to join in, visit their local community businesses, and attend festive activities throughout the week.

Gateshead Flagship Event- Christmas Light Switch On

About the event:
A festive community celebration bringing together families, neighbours and local businesses for Edberts House’s annual Christmas Tree Light Switch-On. Expect twinkling lights, winter treats, craft activities and plenty of sparkle — a warm and welcoming evening for the whole community.

Activities & Highlights:

- Official Christmas Light Switch-On
- Market stalls featuring local makers and small businesses
- Craft stations, family games and festive workshops
- Character meet-and-greets with Stitch & Bluey (Make My Day Events)
- Visit from Santa Claus
- Food, treats and hot drinks
- Community raffle & tombola
- Face painting and children’s entertainment
- Christmas music and carols to close the evening
