Specifically written to introduce children and young adults to the Holocaust, Joel Stern tells the story of his grandfathers experiences, from a young boy growing up in 1930s Germany to the rise in Nazism which saw his life turned upside down in Just Freddy (2022).
To mark Holocaust Memorial Day 2026, join Joel online at Newcastle City Library as he presents his grandfathers story and shows that the Holocaust didnt start with violence, concentration camps and murder; but with the suspicion and intolerance of others.
