Travelling by Metro

The Tyne and Wear Metro system is an under and overground rail network that serves the boroughs of Newcastle upon Tyne, Gateshead, North Tyneside, South Tyneside and Sunderland. With 60 stations across North East England, travelling by Metro is an accessible, quick and low emission means to get out and about. Stations and carriages have been adapted to adhere to access needs, including ramps, train time and next stop announcements, as well as specially trained staff on hand, to ensure each journey is as smooth and enjoyable as possible.

Travelling by Bus

Bus services in and around Newcastle are frequent and efficient with a variety of ticket options available, from single tickets to all day passes, making travelling by bus a cost-effective way to commute to Newcastle and the surrounding areas.

Newcastle’s three main bus operators are Go North East, Arriva and Stagecoach.

Catching a bus in the city centre is stress-free, with bus stations located throughout such as Haymarket Bus Station, Newcastle Central Station and Old Eldon Square Bus Station. Plan your route home from the office here.

Cycling, e-scooters and car parks

Cycling

Cycling to work is a viable and eco-friendly option for commuters who prefer travelling on two wheels. A network of cycle lanes leads you through Newcastle city centre, with plans from Newcastle City Council to widen more pathways and increase the amount of cycle lanes available.

E-scooters

Car parks

There is an abundance of car parks and parking spaces available in Newcastle city centre, from on-street parking bays to multi-storey car parks. Pay-by-phone parking and contactless payments are available in an increasing amount of car parks, however meters accepting change only, are common.
