  • Lumiere live show: explore things that sparkle and glow in this beautiful live show! (5+ recommended)
  • Magical light play in the Making Studios: Experiment with magical creations that capture and project light. (4+ recommended)
  • Festive pop-up science: Impress friends and family with festive challenges – untangle yourself from the tinsel, step through a Christmas card and try some clever cutlery balancing!
  • Lantern trail: Follow our glowing lantern trail around the centre and see how many you can find.
  • Space Zone: launch your own rocket; be the boss in Mission Control and check out how astronauts poo in space. Explore the planets and night skies in the North’s biggest planetarium and see our Earth in whole new light with the stunning digital globe Sphere.
  • Gaia, our Planet Earth - created by British artist Luke Jerram. It’s wowed audiences across the globe, and now you can wonder at this mesmerising and massive recreation of planet Earth.
  • LEGO® creations built by pro LEGO® artists. Be inspired to get building! Highlights include a 1.5m model of The LEGO Movie’s Space UniKitty and a steampunk submarine– the handiwork of Warren Elsmore – and Stephenson's Rocket locomotive, by local artist Steve Mayes.
  • Under-7s fun including NEW Play Zone, a range of discovery backpacks and hands-on, pop-up play stations!
  • Our open-air ice rink is back! From 13 November – 9 January 2022, come and have a whirl on our open-air ice rink and enjoy a range of festive treats. (Separate prices apply.)
